With a height of 5,400 ft. (1,646 m), this is the highest peak in the Western Ghats & Maharashtra. It is beautifully shaped and commands a fantastic view. The small temple of Devi Kalsubai at the top is legendary and receives many pilgrims.
The top is rocky, and one can see distant peaks in all directions. At this superb height, the view is just marvellous.
The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attract one’s attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramshej, Harihar Fort, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, and Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Patta, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madan, Kulang, Ratangad (south-west) and to the south Pabargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen.
As per the legend, Kalsubai stayed in a nearby village as a young girl on one condition her employers would not employ her to do manual work. When asked to do, she fled to this hill. A temple has been constructed on the top in her glory and villagers visit its often green bangles to please the goddess of women’s liberation.

03:30 – 07:00
Now we start the trek to the highest peak of Maharashtra state; i.e. Kalsubai Peak. We need to ascend approximately 2,250 ft.
It takes about three and a half hours to reach the summit from the base.
For trekkers, this is a simple mountain to climb. An easy but steep route leads to an upper plateau that has water. It usually takes 3 to 4 hours to reach the top of the Kalsubai peak from the base village. There are three iron ladders along this route.
Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough efforts have been taken to make this trek easy. This is the most usual route that most trekkers take to climb Kalsubai peak.
Along the way, you can enjoy the view of the sunrise.
07:00 – 08:00
You can rest for an hour on the summit.
08:00 – 11:30
Now we start descending to the base village via the same route. Reach Bari village & Refresh yourself. (Toilets are available there.)
11:30
Let’s have a meal together. Served hot and tasty vegetarian food.
13:00 – 20:00
Start the journey back to Pune with very pleasant memories and non-biodegradable garbage.
We are going to have tea on the way. Resume the rest of the journey.
20:00
Reach Pune and now it’s time to say goodbye to your travel companion. Let’s keep in touch via phone / social media and meet again on another memorable trip.
