With an elevation of 5,400 ft. (1,646 m), it is the highest peak in Maharashtra. It is beautifully shaped and offers a fantastic view. The small temple of Kalsubai Devi at the top is legendary and is visited by many pilgrims, especially during the season of “Navratri”.
The summit is rocky and distant peaks can be seen in all directions. At this majestic height, the view is simply incredible.
The vast expanse of Bhandardara’s backwaters commands attention from above.
Ramshej, Harihar, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, and Kavanai forts can be seen in the north. Aundha, Patta and Bitangad forts on the east, Alang, Madan, Kulang and Ratangad forts on the west and Pabargad fort, Gavaldeo, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad fort on the south.
Folk Tell about Kalsubai Peak
According to legend, Kalsubai lived as a little girl in a nearby village because her owners did not make her do manual labour. When asked to do so, she fled to this hill.
A temple is built on the peak in her glory and the villagers visit her with green bangles to please the Goddess of women’s liberation.
