It’s a great escape for trekkers and nature enthusiasts looking to explore the Western Ghats and experience the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra.
The trail then descends through Madhe Ghat, offering stunning views of the surrounding area. Along the way, you’ll encounter Madheghat Waterfall, also known as Laxmi Waterfall. This is a great spot to take a break and cool off. After enjoying the waterfall, you’ll ascend Upandya Ghat, completing the loop.
While trekking from Madhe Ghat to Upandya Ghat, you can witness the natural beauty of the Sahyadri mountains, encounter diverse flora and fauna, and enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings. The panoramic views from the top of the ghat are especially rewarding, allowing you to admire the vast expanses of the Western Ghats.
The best time to do this trek is during the monsoon season (June to September) when the waterfalls are at their fullest and the scenery is most lush.
Madhe Ghat
Known for its stunning waterfall and the historical significance related to Maratha history. The name Madhe Ghat comes from the Marathi word “madh,” which means “dead body.” Legend has it that after the heroic warrior “Subhedar Tanaji Malusare” sacrificed himself in the Battle of Sinhagad Fort, his body was carried through this route to his village, Umarath.
Upandya Ghat
This lesser-known ghat provides an equally thrilling trekking experience with beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
