The “Nageshwar Cave/Temple” is dedicated to the lord Shankara. The pinnacle appears to look like the eyes and hood of a Cobra (‘Nag’ in Marathi). Due to this the place appears to have got its name “Nageshwar”.
A very unique natural phenomenon to observe here is – A small stream of water that performs ‘Abhishek’ on the Shiv Linga all year round even in dry seasons. The natural stream of water percolates down from the mountaintop and falls exactly on the Shiva Linga. On the side of the Shivling, there is a trident and two or three idols in the broken stem from the Nandi stone.
Nageshwar Temple is a very old Swayambhu Temple of lord Shankara. It is a sacred temple and people believe that vows made there are fulfilled. Devotees from long distances come here for darshan on the occasion of Mahashivratri. On Mahashivratri, the Nageshwar temple is crowded with devotees.
Nageshwar Pinnacle captures the attention of Vasota Fort A small conical hill aka “Vrundavan Peak or Khota Nageshwar” behind that a faraway one more conical peak attracts; middle of that peak carved caves are seen from Vasota fort. One can also go to Nageshwar Temple from Vasota Fort or visit Vasota Fort by taking darshan from Nageshwar Temple. The road there is rough and passes through the forest.
Nageshwar Temple and Vasota Fort are both enchanting scenic spots to experience the natural beauty.
