Pratapgad Fort is known for the Battle of Pratapgad, which took place in 1659. It was a significant battle between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan, a prominent general of the Bijapur Sultanate. During the encounter, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan in single combat, leading to a decisive victory for the Marathas.
At this historical place, there is a traditional route through the thick forest which is leading to the Pratapgad Fort called “Rajmarg”. We can have a real experience of the forest of the Jaoli region. It also explains why the fort stands at such a strategic location.
The “Rajmarg” route starts from the base village i.e. Wada-Kumbhroshi Village and ends at the Pratapgad Fort main entry gate or near the present parking lot. It is almost parallel to the present Ghat road. It is not used by many and is unknown to many hikers, nature lovers, etc.
So don’t miss the chance to see this traditional route to Pratapgag Fort. Let’s climb this route and see this historic fort and experience its glory.
