Raireshwar Fort/Plateau is a historic hill fort located in the Bhor region of Maharashtra, India. It is situated in the Western Ghats and is known for its scenic beauty and historical significance.
Raireshwar Fort was a significant fort during the Maratha Empire age. The fort holds historical importance as it is closely associated with the Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It’s also the birthplace of Swarajya. According to historical records, in 1645, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took an oath of Hindavi Swarajya (self-rule for the native people) at the Shri Raireshwar temple of Raireshwar Fort when he was just 16 years old with other young Mavlas.
The region around Raireshwar Fort is rich in natural beauty and offers opportunities for exploring other nearby attractions, including Kenjalgad Fort and Kamalgad Fort.
Raireshwar is a popular trekking destination in Maharashtra. The trek to the fort is relatively easy, making it suitable for beginners and experienced trekkers alike. The ideal time to visit Raireshwar Fort is during the post-monsoon months (September to December) when the weather is pleasant, and the landscape is at its most vibrant.
Raireshwar has a temple famous for its historical importance. The temple is very old and of a stone structure, but it was later reconstructed in the 18th century.
In 1645, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took the oath of Hindavi Swarajya in this temple at the age of 16 and then created history. It said that he had cut his little finger and taken the oath by dripping blood onto the Shivling. Thus, Raireshwar can be considered an important place in Maratha history.
A wildflower special trek is a nature excursion that focuses on exploring and appreciating wildflowers in their natural habitat. These treks are typically organized in areas known for their diverse and beautiful wildflower displays, such as meadows, grasslands, mountains, forests, and even deserts.
Raireshwar plateau has a full variety of wild and beautiful flowers after the monsoon. On the whole plateau, different shapes and sizes, and colourful flowers appear, which are rarely found in other places.
Indian Arrowroot (चवर) species of flowers are very popular on the Raireshwar Plateau.
