Sandhan Valley is in Ahmednagar district; West of the beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village. The valley is surrounded by the tough trio of Alang-Madan-Kulang, Ratangad Fort, Ajoba and Kalsubai ranges.
Sandhan Valley Trek is a very good combination of canyon and valley. A water-carved gorge 200 feet deep and about 1.5 km long. A bright and deep narrow rock gorge between two high 300 ft. walls of the mountain range. Its width is less than 3 feet in some places so the sun’s rays cannot reach some places. Hence it is called the “Valley of the Shadow”
Walking through the narrow path of the valley with 300 feet of rock walls on both sides is an experience of a lifetime. Descending the entire Sandhan valley is always a memorable trip and an overnight stay under the sparkling sky along the reservoir is the sweet cherry on the cake!
We can enter Sandhan Valley but it is accessible throughout the year except during monsoon. To reach the end of the ghat one has to cross 2-3 water tanks, the water level varies seasonally, in winter it is waist deep and in summer it is knee-deep.
After crossing several small rock patches in Sandhan Valley, you have to rappel down a 50 feet patch. At the end of the valley, you get a magnificent view of the steep cliffs and deep valleys of the Sahyadri. Rugged terrain, sharp mountain cut-outs and challenging routes, this is a real challenge through gigantic rocks.
