Sudhagad Fort (aka Bhorapgad) is a hill fort near Pali, Maharashtra. The fort is situated in the vicinity of Sudhagad Wildlife Sanctuary.
Sudhagad Fort has rich architecture and is one of the most well-preserved forts, its walls and fortifications are largely intact. Both entrances, fortifications, huge bastions, temples, cisterns, granaries and many more.
Sudhagad fort trek is a short weekend gateway for trekkers from Mumbai and Pune. The fort is almost equidistant from both the cities.
The origin of the fort traces back to the 2nd century BC. It was named Sudhagad after the Marathas conquered it from the Bahamanis dynasty in 1648. Shivaji Maharaj considered it to be the capital of the Maratha Empire but later decided to choose Raigad Fort over Sudhagad Fort due to its central location.
It is said that the Sudhagad Fort was built initially to protect trading activities. Later, as time changed it was captured by different kings to strengthen their empires. The fort was named Bhorapgad after the goddess Bhoraidevi.
