Outdoor Grading

Kalavantin Durg is situated just opposite the Prabalgad Fort between the Matheran and Panvel, Maharashtra. It is approx. 2,300 ft. from sea level. It is a high-rising pinnacle known for its steep slopes and rock-cut stairs that give a zest for adventure to all the trekkers. The fort is believed to have been built during the time of the Maratha Empire. It served as a watchtower to guard the nearby Prabalgad Fort and the region.

The fort is known for its distinctive architecture, with steep rock-cut steps leading to the top. The steps are carved into the rocky terrain and are quite narrow, making the trek to the summit a thrilling adventure. Standing on Prabalmachi adjacent to the mighty Prabalgad, Kalavantin Durg is indeed a fort that offers spectacular views and that exact feeling of being on the top.

Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including the Matheran plateau, Prabalgad Fort, and the Sahyadri Mountains.

Detailed Itinerary

Day-wise Schedule

Day 0Overnight Travelling

Once you reach your pick-up point, mark your presence with the SG-Trekkers representative. Then we will travel by private bus to the starting point of the trek.

Day 1Kalavantin Durg Trek > Travel to Pune

02:45
At midnight, we arrive at the base of Kalavantin Durg.
Our field experts will provide pre-trek information and instructions to all participants.

03:00 – 06:00
Now we start the trek to the Kalavantin Durg. We need to ascend approximately 1,420 ft. It takes about two and a half hours to reach the top from the base.

The trek is divided into two patches, first is the uphill terrain to Prabalmachi where the trek route is divided into Kalavantin Durg and Prabalgad. The second patch for the Kalavantin hike is vertiginous, as the rock-cut steps are very steep and the only way to climb the Kalavantin Pinnacle.

There are no railings or support while ascending or descending the Kalavantin Durg thus making it the hardest part of the trek.

06:00 – 08:00
You can rest for an hour at the top.

To the east, the sun will rise behind the mountains, then we will enjoy the view from the top of Kalavantin Durg.

08:00 – 12:00
Now we start descending to the Prabalmachi village by the same route.

Refresh yourself. (Toilets are available there.)
Let’s have a meal together. Served hot and tasty vegetarian food.

12:00 – 13:30
Now we begin to descend; It takes about one and a half hours to reach the base.

13:30 – 17:00
Reach base and start the journey back to Pune with very pleasant memories.

17:00
Reach Pune and it’s time to say goodbye to your travel companion. Let’s stay in touch via phone/social media and meet again for another memorable trip.

    ट्रेक एकदम चांगला झाला. वेळेचं अगदी काटेकोरपणे नियोजन पार पडलं. भर उन्हात पटापट खाली उतरलो व रात्री चढलो, ह्यामुळे दमछाक बिलकुल झाली नाही. जेवणं साधं आणि उत्कृष्ट होतं. येताना फक्त bus मध्ये bluetooth वर जोरात गाणी नाही लावता आली. 😄 Next time.
